What is the best kiln to get?

How can I make / get hold of a small kiln?

• Hi, I throw a lot of ceramic pots at college but it takes a while for them to get kiln fired and then fired again when glaze has been applied due to all of the other students that also have things to be put in the kiln. I don't know much about them so i was wondering if i could make a home made kiln. Is there any alternative methods?

  Define small - "a lot of pots" either requires volume or a bunch of time and energy consuming runs. Electric kilns can be built, but it is probably cheaper to haunt CraigsList for people who bought and either are selling from frustration or upgrading their equipment. Higher temp kilns require special elements. Gas Kilns are a better chance because it is possible to go bigger and to use fairly crude burners. This book has been the standard for years and is available in many libraries.
