The next day all interior spaces of the Statue of Liberty will close while upgrades are made to the 125 year old pedestal and the 200 year old fort base from which the statue rises. But, don't worry Liberty Island will remain OPEN so a visit should remain part of your travel plans. The work is expected to be completed in approximately one year. Advance Reservations are LIMITED and REQUIRED for entrance to any level of the Statue of Liberty National Monument. There are three types of Reservations: Crown Access Monument Pedestal Access No Monument Access (exterior grounds ONLY) Limited to 240 per day Limited to 3000 per day About 12,000 per day "No Monument Access" tickets are available from the ferry operator once Crown and Monument/Pedestal passes have been distributed. These tickets are also distributed to individuals purchasing transportation through vendors other than Statue Cruises. These tickets will enable you to explore the exterior grounds only. Monument/Pedestal Access enable you to enter the stone portion of the Monument. Reservations should be made at least two weeks in advance online at www.statuecruises.com or by calling (201)604-2800. Each day a small number of passes are distributed from the ferry ticket offices on a first come-first serve basis. Passes are not available on Liberty Island. Crown Access: Reservations are booked months in advance and will enable you to climb 354 stairs to a platform within the statue's head. There is an additional $3.00 fee to reserve a Crown Access Pass. As of July 2011, all available tickets to the Crown have been reserved.
