Which one of Bernini's sculpture that use several pieces of carved marble and assemble them?

For the sculptors, what does one use to color a Porcelain sculpture?

  • I thought I would have to use glazes or slips like any type of clay, but it's still better to be on the safe side, and it's difficult to search for an appropriate website for such questions

  • Answer:

There are 2 major directions to go After it is fired The sculpture could be painted with acrylic paint or oil paint Another possibility is to use oxides then to do a glaze fire There are under glazes and glazes that you can purchase or mix-up depending on the studio you go to Here is one source for commercially prepared materials http://www.dickblick.com/categories/glazes/ There are lots of other sources If you want a starting point for information about ceramics http://ceramicartsdaily.org/ A lot of people start working with stoneware before sculpting in porcelain because stoneware is more forgiving. Less likely to crack and split during drying and firing. I am making some cameos that I will apply under glaze then fire to cone 05 around 1800 degrees F I will then do some more application of under-glaze then paint with clear glaze then fire to cone 5 around 2200 degrees F Some under-glazes only go on leather hard clay Some can go on either leather hard or bisque There is another category I have not used - Over-glaze used on glazed pieces and fired to there own temperature range
