How are found Objects made?
-
Hey all, I'm finding difficulty with a question I am asked for ART. I have to define the material I am using for my art work. The teacher said it falls under the category of found objects and that I have to research that material. One of the questions is how is the material (found objects) made? I really don't understand since found objects can be anything that is recycled, re-used whatever and its purpose is changed to suit the person who found or purchased it.So can't they be made out of anything? Any suggestions/help appreciated.

Answer:
You could explain the process of found-objecthood... These objects were made or grew (if the items you are using are natural: roots, rock,ie...) for a specific purpose, they served that purpose and then were discarded either intentionally or not and then you, the artist find the object and revive them by making them art. So, actually, they can be made out of anything! Best of luck!

Search for assemblage art. Most assemblage art (sculpture) Is made using found objects. If doing a 2D assemblage (found objects) it is called a collage. If using 2D and 3D together it is called a mixed media collage or mixed media assemblage Join this Yahoo group and look at the work of the members. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AssemblageArtists/ Keep Arting! Here is definition which should answer your questions: A found object, in an artistic sense, indicates the use of an object which has not been designed for an artistic purpose, but which existed for another purpose already. Found objects can be either useful or manufactured or recycled objects, or, objects found in Nature (plants, stones etc). They are described as "found" to distinguish them from objects purposely created for an artwork by the artist himself. e.g.In 1917 Dada artist Marcel Duchamp shocked the art world with his famous display of a ceramic urinal: Picasso made a bull's head sculpture from the discarded handlebars of a bicycle The urinal and the handlebars were found objects.
