Is cheap clay okay to use?

Aspiring clay artist: What kind of clay should I use?

  • I want to create clay charms, but I'm stuck on what kind of clay to use! Should I use Crayola Air-Dry clay, Model Magic, cold porcelain or polymer clay? Also, where can I get those pins for clay charms and where can I find glaze? Please help!

    I use DAS air-dry clay, and Sculpey. I recommend sculpey in particular. It's a very durable polymer clay, and won't crack. I'm a huge fan of it. As far as glaze, I use triple thick decoart brush-on glaze. I really love the look of it. I get all of my supplies at craftmania, but a.c.moore is good too, as well as Michael's.

I would use oven bake clay, oil based does not dry all the way and water based cracks and crumbles. For the project you are doing I recommend oven bake clay as your medium.

I would definitely go for polymer clay. I use the Americana Duraclear gloss glaze on my stuff and it works fine too. :D
