Does anyone know of any artists who base their work on their family?

Anyone know of any artists that base there work on surfaces?

  • im doing art A level and the subject is surfaces and sounds, and one know any artists that use these things? even if the pieces they make are out of like a rough material or somthing ?

  • Answer:

For sound google sound sculpture. The wikipedia article gives you a list of artists: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_sculpture All artists use surfaces. Surface is a rather vague term, look up Rachel Whiteread, by casting negative space she makes us see the surface of objects in a different manner. But depending how you define surface, Vincent van Gogh is well known for a very textured paint surface. As far as surface is concerned I think you need to define for yourself what you understand in using surface. We as humans generally look at the surface of things. If I look at you, the shape I see is the surface of your skin...If I look at a table I look at the surface of the wood it might be constructed out of. I don't have x-ray vision. You might look at the physics of sounds. look at sound waves. Look how they can get represented on a surface. read up on cymatics: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cymatics I think you could have a lot of fun with this and it would be a good combination of sound, surface and science.
