How do you license an art design or pattern?

Any ideas for an art project design?

• ok well i basically thought of what i want but need more inspiration on patterns Well the poject was to design a box (yeah first clay project...) with a pattern! lol well the next statement is hypocrital, <---- bad spelling, i want to make a checkerboard and instead of alternating black and white i want alternating pattern. the patterns cant be trite (though checkerboard is trite) and not girly (im a boy) and nothing too detailed because it has to be repeated

• Answer:

  You can create a simple border around the edges (one to three lines or a series of small boxes or circles or triangles or something Else simple). Then put a main image in the center. You can use a roller for patterns. You can press things into the clay to form a pattern....such as tool marks or ring marks or cookie cutters or cloth marks or bottle marks (cap, opening or bottom). Flowers and plants pressed into the clay can be attractive if its not too girly for you. You can press just about anything into clay to make a pattern...if you are worried about release, you can spray a tiny amount of mold release or spray lightly with olive oil. You can alternate textures..perhaps from plastics or cloth. So many choices...just pick a couple and try them out till you find something you like.
