If I create a work of art, how can I get it noticed?
-
I create small works of art and want to get noticed by maybe a museum.

Answer:
Enter it in an art show. Ask a local restaurant owner to allow you to display your work(s) at his restaurant. Where I live we have an annual outdoor event. Artists rent space and sell their art. They come from all over the South to do so. Some of it is quite beautiful, and they have everything from paintings, woodcarvings sculptures and mobile art, and even handmade jewelry. You might try that if you want to make a full time career out of your art. You could also have a website or sell it on eBay.

forget about a museum for now, that's not the first step. the first step is to participate in local art shows (don't bother do go anywhere not local in the beginning, it will cost you a lot and a payoff is very uncertain, you are not the only artist out there). Also go yourself to art shows, go to gallery openings so you get an impression of what's out there and which galleries would be interested in your style. It would be pointless for you to approach an art gallery which is e.g. mainly interested in outdoor sculpture. Participate in juried shows, sometimes they even have prizes and if you can win a couple, people should start noticing your work. But be prepared for rejections as well, that happens to everybody and you can't win them all (or even get into all art shows)

Create a Frewebs site and put pictures of your art on it, though that might not attract many people. Or find emails of art collectors or museum owners and email them pictures of your art. The last one is what I'd suggest more than the first. I hope this helps and good luck!

Make several art pieces of the same style and take them to a gallery in chicago or maybe new york. show them to the gallerys owner and after she views them ask if she is interested. the other thing u could do is take them to a gift store in a nice art museum and try to sell them that way. GOODLUCK!

Up load Photographs of your work to http://photobucket.com/ or http://photobucket.com/ for free. Conduct a "personal survey" to familiarize yourself with the art offerings in your area. Use the basic resources that are already available to you like community newsletters, mall flyers, phonebooks, artist organizations, elementary school auctions, fundraisers. Prepare an informal catalogue or list of the available venues currently in use throughout your region. Think about places where your friends have shown their work or places that are not conventional galleries or exhibition spaces but have the ability to show art and decorative items under special circumstances (e.g., cafés, coffeeshops, libraries, etc.) Contact your local park and recreation office or other community organizations. They often have events that would include artists works and sometimes even offer artists opportunities to conduct a one day instructional program or seminar. Community art museums are options (and usually, curators will try to get space for local artists to show their work at least we did when I worked as a curator). Many artists help the educational mission of the museum and show their work within that context before going on to local, regional, and national juried shows or dealership and gallery exhibitions. Good, old fashioned hard work and community unity is always a solution. One approach is to organize your own event to showcase local or regional artistic talent. Seek out volunteers, ask friends, other artists, and community members to contribute time and/or funding. Try to entice local community organizations or businesses to pitch in and assist the event and its cause. Many community businesses will help support the arts in this manner and if you plan something that also can attract young people and seniors alike, you have a definite winner. Organize a public calendar or prepare a flyer outlining your art events giving dates, locations, times, and activities. Contact your state and local arts commission for information about grants and other opportunities. http://www.drloriv.com/advice/promote.ht... http://ca.search.yahoo.com/search?p=how+... http://ca.search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf... http://www.letsgetdigital.ca/artpromo.ht... http://www.teras-wish.com/promoting.htm... http://ca.search.yahoo.com/bin/search?fr...
