How does the scream (painting) portray alienation, confusion, identity etc?

Artists that portray emotion in scultpure? (Happiness, Sadness, confusion, etc)?

  • I'm looking for artists that portray emotion and body language through sculpture. I have already studied artists; George Segal, Marc Quinn, Maggi Hambling, Rebecca Warren, Antony Gormley, Lynn Chadwick, Elizabth Frink, Jacob Epstein, Grayson Perry, Kenneth Armitage, Elizabeth Hicks, Helen Chadwick, Ron Mueck and Duane Hanson - any additions to these anybody knows of? I'm looking for artists that sculpt how the body moves, and particularly emotions of the face, such as happiness/joy, sadness, etc etc, and body language that adds to this. Any help would be appreciated!

I enjoyed looking at Lorraine Fernie's sculptures from 1997 in the last project I did on the human figure and the book "the human form in clay" became a bible for me for a few months. Have a look in your local library art section and there's usually tonnes of different books for this sort of thing. Also you could always go back and look at classical sculpture if you're not looking specifically for contemporary work. Michelangelo's David is a pretty obvious one since it's supposed to be a near-perfect physiological representation of "fear, tension and aggression". Also looks really different when viewed from the front. I won't bore you with any others if that's not what you're looking for. You seem to have missed out Henry Moore from your big list of human-sculpting people, also maybe try looking into fine artists (Francis Bacon, Alice Kettle, off the top of my head) and various photographers because it's always interesting to see what you can take from different mediums and combine together. Hope any small part of this turns out to be useful.
