You can also mess with the camera's color balance. But this might be done better in post processing as you don't want to have a bad photo to start with. There are some very nice free presets for Photoshop Lightroom to do this very thing.

The lights on the tree photo had this at the end: pentax k1000 fujifilm quality II iso 100 (expired) kit lens Also, you could try manipulating it in Photoshop (if you have it) with filters.
