How can you edit pictures?

I can't figure out how to open and edit pictures in GIMP?

  • Hi everyone. I've downloaded GIMP photo editing software about 5 times now, and each time I can't get it to work. i use a MacBook Pro and with all updated software, etc. So basially, I open GIMP, and there is a toolbox and a large window called x11 or something opens with it. i can't quit out of the x11 window without GIMP closing. There isn't a file>open option on the menu bar. it just says x11 help edit and preferences. i don't know if i downloaded it wrong every single time, but if someone could just guide me as to how i can open pictures and such, i'd appreciate it.

    See: http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/ Apparently you do need x11 to run it, and make sure you have everything else needed too. Sorry if this isn't very helpful. By the way can you post a screenshot?
