How to TAKE black and white photos on Nikon D60?

Does the amount of photos you can take with a Nikon D60 depend on the memory card?

  • When I want to take multiple rapid shots at a time, the max I can only get is 4. But I want to take at least 20 if possible. How can I achieve this?

  • Answer:

Ok I can't be too specific at the moment without looking through the D60 specs however I have one myself and I can tell you that what I have experienced is that it will depend on the shutter speed and whether or not your SD chip can keep up with the read/write rate. I have found that if you are going for setting L/Fine on the camera you will need a chip more geared towards use with high def video cameras. This way you will get the right write rate to the chip and you won't end up with a full buffer (where images are stored before written, its very small and very temporary) causing the D60 to stop exposure. In short access speed of the chip is more important than size, I shot at Shrovetide in Derby an 8 mile high speed rugby/football match with over 10,000 competitiors. Release mode obviously required and had no problem with my Scan Disk Ultra II SD-HC 4GB chip....one thing to point out it had a write speed of 15mb per second upwards. Now the images I was shooting were around 12mb each...are you following?

The D60's buffer memory can actually hold about 100 jpg images before it has to stop and take a break to write to the card. If you are not able to do this, there is either something wrong with your camera or there is something not right about your camera settings. Make sure you are not trying to use the flash with all of these pictures. It cannot recycle fast enough to keep up with the continuous shooting mode. EDIT: The following is copied straight from Nikon's Web site: "Shoot Continuously at up to 3 Frames per Second: Capture sports action, precious moments and fleeting expressions at up to 3 frames per second, for as many as 100 consecutive JPEG images." I have personally seen this to be true, given the proper camera settings and lighting situation. I'm not sure why I would've gotten thumbs down for this.

There are 3 important factors. The type and size of your image (JPG high, low, RAW) The memory buffer in your camera The write speed of you memory card. === > I want to take at least 20 That's not going to happen with D60 (sorry). It seems like Nikon is artificially limiting the max (to promote sales of the high end cameras). My old nikon D70 - can go as indefinitely at top speed. Once I went up to 100 at highspeed and I gave up. Good luck...

To answer your question simply "no". It depends on the camera. Some of the Pro cameras shoot 8-10 pix a second, for a burst of up to 40 before having to write those images to the card.

Yes the memory card is what will hold the pictures so obviously the bigger the memory card the more photographs and you cant take more than 4 in the multiple rapid shot mode as far as i know read your manual

Yes, the more space on your memory card the more photos you can put on it.

You need a FASTER memory card....
