What photo printer prints 5X7 pictures?

I would like to buy a photo printer that prints really good 8x10's.?

  • I need a photo printer that is semi-professional quality that prints 8x10's. I have found the 4x6 or 5x7 printers but that's it! I am an aspiring photographer, and hope to get in more practice, but I need a good printer so I don't have to go to rite aid or walmart(the nearest one is 20 mls) everytime I need to print some good pictures.

I would also recommend the Epson R800 if most of your prints will be no larger than 8x10, and if you need to conserve desktop space. I rarely print 11x17s. The R800 seems to have resolved a bronzing issue that was apparent in the older Epson photo printers. Epson has great archival ink and a wider selection of practical and creative papers to choose from. The only downside is cost...the inks tend to get used up fairly fast. But if you are printing treasures, this should not be so much of an issue.

The model I would suggest is the Epson R800. I have the larger version, the R1800, and my father has the R800. The quality of prints from these is outstanding. The 8-color ink setup, including the "gloss optimizer" really makes a difference. I would suggest if you get one of these to leave it on all the time and only clean the heads or do a test if the print quality is suffering. Epson printers are notorious for wasting ink, and turning on and off the printer will definitely cause it to waste ink.

I am wondering why you would want to purchase a good inkjet printer (like the Epson R260} for a hundred dollars, the Epson paper and Epson ink (necessary to make color corrected prints) to make images that cost much more to print than having a photo lab make an 8x10 print for under $2 Consider your "test" prints, your time and the number of color corrected 8x10 prints you can make before running out of about a hundred and twenty dollars worth of ink? It can get expensive real fast. I use an Epson printer, but only for making CD labels and quick prints when the client cannot wait for a real print from my lab.

I love my Epson Stylus Photo RX620, available direct from Epson for $129.99. It's also an EXCELLENT flat bed scanner. I've owned one HP and one Canon and one other not worth mentioning prior to this and, although the others were supposed to be "photo" printers, there is little basis for comparison. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/consumer/consDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=54782584 They have a new generation of "Ultra High Definition" printers that are supposed to blow MINE out of the water. All I can say is, they must be good if they are better than this one, as I am not interested in replacing it at all. They are showing 3 models - ALL for under $200! http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/Landing/UltraHiDefinition.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes#Compare The R260 must be the new version of OMG's R200, so it would be a GREAT buy for $79.99. If you don't want a scanner, I'd suggest the "mid-line" R380, which has an LCD display and a built-in card reader for $139.99. The RX580 is also a flatbed scanner for $179.99.
