Where can my friend find a job in photography in the Volusia County Florida area?

  • Where can my friend find a job in photography in the Volusia County FL. area? My friend is 18 years old and an inexperienced photographer with a $400 brand new digital camera (Nikon P500), looking for a part time job. She is willing to be shaped and taught many things about photography. If you have an opening or can point her in the right direction, please say so! She has been searching for a photography job like crazy but cant find anyone willing to take her in!! *SHE HAS A PORTFOLIO READY*

    Her "brand new 400$ camera" is a bridge camera ... no serious PROFESSIONAL photographer would use that to shoot for a client. If she doesn;t even have an entry level DSLR then she most likelly doesn;t know anything about lenses and off camera lighting or how to use a DSLR. The camera doesn;t even have a shoe mount so she has no experience using a real flash (not the built in popup piece of crap). Might as well just hire some bum off the street and hand them a disposable camrea for all the difference it will make. If you apply a job to work in a garage as a mechanic, you are expected to at least know the basics of mechanics and what the tools are ... same applies for photography. If you apply for a job as a taxi driver, you are expected to know how to drive ... same with photography. Hiring someone like her would basically INCREASE the photographers workload with little to no benefit for him so why would they? your friend would bring little to no benefit and on top of doing his job, the photographer would have to teach her everything about photography ... that's insane. Basically your friend is asking a photographer to PAY HER for the privelege of giving HRE PHOTOGRAPHY LESSONS.

With all due respect to your friend, she is delusional. A Nikon P500 is not a DSLR and it's not likely anyone will be interested in a photographer who lacks at least an entry-level DSLR and a decent lens or two. Tell your friend to take some time learning the basics of photography. In a few years when she moves up to a DSLR then she can seek jobs in photography.

Just becuase she bought a new camera doesn't mean see knows anything about photography. Nobody wants to hire an inexperienced photographer. Has she had her portfolio critiqued by any experienced photographers?

She can't find anyone willing to take her in for a reason. A teenager with a digital camera is not a photographer. They're looking for someone educated and experienced.
