What Digital Camera Should I Buy?

  • I need to buy a digital camera for my job. I work outside and use at least 4 rolls a day - busting budget. I am take action shots from a distance. I need to be able to zoom into the action. At times I am upto 20 feet way from the action. Somestimes, my subjects are above my head. I am not a professional. I am doing this as a special assigment for my job. Eventually, the pics will end up on the internet - photo journal. I do not know anything about camers. So if you use technical terms, I will not understand. However, I plan to take a photography class to learn more. Therefore, I want a good camera with a few whistles and bells, something that I can grow into. I was told that larger cameras are easier to handle: hold, aim, less shaky. Is this true? Does size matter? If so, I would like a larger camera. In any case , I do not want a small pocket size camera. I need the camera to be very inexpensive... if possible, under $200. Thanks in adance for your input.

    the fuji finepix 5.1 megapixel (see link below) should fit your needs just fine. it's a little more than your budget ($300) but you're not going to get anything more than a clunky point and shoot for under $200. it looks like a fancy slr camera but it doesn't have as many bells and whistles. it does have what you need: namely, fast shutter speeds (for action shots) and a 10x zoom lens which should be fine for you. most important for you is the memory card. i'd get something around 1-2 gigs. since your pics are going straight to the web you can probably shoot at a lower resolution and fit hundreds of photos on a memory card like that. the camera will most likely have a setting for web/email pics as well. the photo class will help you understand shutter speed and aperture and then you can simply apply that to your digital camera. best buy has good prices but very little help. if you read the brochures you'll know just as much as they do about the product. just remember megapixels have to do with print size not necessarily image quality. the bigger your print needs to be the more megapixels you need to get a clear image at max print size. but for web your images are always going to be relatively small so 5MP is more than enough.

Hi, With ur requirement and ur budget i guess can get Digital cameras with above 4 mega pixals with a 3 X optical zoom. These are good cameras to be used not from far and thses are very much available in market. These cameras are not much big compared to the cameras used by the pors but good picture taking does not dipend on the size. U will have to buy an additinal memmory card to store ur pics but i guess everything should come in 200 bucks.

Cannon makes all really nice cameras, i bought one for 160$ at best buy, with the addition of a second memory card, it would work for what you need. You can find it on http://www.bestbuy.com

You might want to consult with your photography teacher and or a sales person at Circuit City or Best Buy where you can get a great deal, an awesome digital camera, and helpful advice.

I've had both a Kodak and cannon and both were great, Kodak is a little more user friendly in my opinion

Ok i dont know much. But I Do know that camras out date them selves very fast. My grandpa has bought 3 in the last 6 years. Crazy hu. Good luck. I have a Canon 3.2 megapicals and It works fine. I use it for photoshop and all the picts come out crystal clear. Sorry I cant be more helpful.

Unfortunately to do what you want it to do you are not going to find anything under 200 unless you buy used which you could run in to problems with. I suggest one that you take a look on ebay and two you go with the Pentex *ist* D for two reasons because Pentex is an excellent camera to begin with and 2 because it is one of the only digital cameras that you can interchange you lenses and use other camera lenses to up close distance and what have you. You also have to keep in mind that you want a lot of memory and your mega pix should be at least 6 to 8. We have the Pentex actually all we use is Pentex and found that by far it is the best camera on the market. As far as the size issue yes the bigger cameras are easier to handle for a steady shot but not as easy to pack and travel with the pocket ones are just that perfect for your pocket but from the sounds of what you are doing youare going to want the big one for the job.
