Are there any stock photo companies in Manila?

Stock Photos and Photo Manipulation?

  • I was just wondering, what site is most useful for free stock photos? I've seen sites like morguefile.com and sxc.hu but I'm worried they might be copyrighted or something of the sort. My question is, if you use a stock image in your background or a stock image as part of your photo, are you able to sell or copyright the photo? I've never used stock images in my photography and I don't want it to trip me up. For example: I'm trying to make an image where there is a moon in the background. I don't have the type of lens for my camera that would allow me to even get a half way decent picture of the moon. I found a really good picture of the moon on morguefile. However, if I use it, would doing so prevent me from copyrighting or selling the image to clients? Thank you!

  • Answer:

You need to credit your sources, and check the picture. They are usually clearly marked as "copyright free and royalty free." But you still need to credit your source. If you print the image, you can source cite it on the back. "portions of this image from the photo "xxx" by "xxx" at SXC.hu, July 15, 2010" It is also considered good manners to notify the photographer that you have used their photo in the comments section. ~Moz
