Whats the difference between the polaroid 600 classic and the 600 ultra? PLEASE AND THANKS?

Just another Polaroid question. Or a few.?

  • Okay, so I'm looking for another Polaroid camera. Which film would be the easiest and cheapest to find? I currently have a spectra, a square shooter and an sx-70 but their films are uncommon, expensive or both. I know Polaroid film is expensive but I was hoping for a better alternative. I'm thinking of getting a 600 but I'd like to hear thoughts about this first. Please don't suggest Fujifilm (or Polaroid 300 that looks like a Fuji) to me because I really hate them. Second, I'm looking for film for my square shooter but type 80 film is rather rare. I hear a lot of things about people using type 660, the ones in the 108 family and even Fujifilm FP-100C. (I'm not up for using stuff from Impossible Project but I'll but them if they're on ebay.) Are any of these true? Has anyone tried this for real? (I'm not at ease until I see its legit because of the format difference and all; also because its expensive.) What, of the 3, is the best, considering: quality, price and availability? Also, if you can recommend any supplier of Polaroid film that delivers to either Virginia or the Philippines that would be great too. The one with wholesale deals like eBay would be great. (I'm just looking for a wider market, alongside ebay.) Thanks a lot! :D

  • Answer:

Switching to a 600 camera will lead to the same problems as with the SX-70. Only useable film is either old original Polaroid or the films from "The Impossible Project". They are the only ones who produce new instant integral film for Polaroid cameras. Original Polaroid film is outdated and becomes rarer and rarer and the prices higher and higher. Compared to what is already asked for original 600 film the films from "The Impossible Project" are cheap. Square shooter: Type 80 film is discontinued longer than 600 film. So if you still can get some it's old stock and quality is doubtable. Fuji FP-100C etc. won't fit. If you want to use FP-100 or FP-3000 look for a camera taking Polaroid series 100 packfilm. Similar to the Square Shooter would be e.g. the Colorpack series. They should go for cheap. Have a look here at the famous Landlist website for suitable cameras. http://www.rwhirled.com/landlist/landdcam-pack.htm Sorry, can't recommend a seller as I'm living in Europe. There are good offers for Fuji FP-100C films on amazon.com IIRC, they will ship anywhere in the US.

Many of the Polaroid Land folding cameras will fit your requirements. Many of them can use the currently produced Fuji 100C + 3000B. They are amazingly cheaper than anything that improssible project produces. However, before buying, search on youtube. These cameras have a deep following and are quite quirky. You should know what the quirks are before you dive in. Good luck. http://www.rwhirled.com/landlist/landdcam-pack.htm
