What web sites and or books do you recomend for someone who wants to self teach how to develop film?

The classic book on developing film is "The Negative" by Ansel Adams. It is very dense reading and is for the serious photographer. If you are looking just for the nuts and bolts of developing film, like how to load a film reel and mixing chemicals, I would not suggest you "self teach". Your local community college has courses in basic photography that will teach you that for very little money. You can watch youtube videos and read online descriptions, but a hands-on approach is well worth it.

The book "Object & Image: An Introduction to Photography, Third Edition" by George M. Craven does a good job of teaching how to develop and print film. You can find it on eBay or at Amazon.
