Answer:
Books and remote learning in general don't work too well, you will get 'the wrong end of the stick' and misunderstand, it's not that Photography is rocket science, it's not, but it is counter intuitive especially for the beginner. The quickest way to learn by far is to go on a shoot with an experienced photographer, most clubs in your area do this on a regular basis. My advice is to join a local club. Once you have an 'overview', understand the terms and have the basics, then the internet and books are a great resource, until then they could be written in ancient Greek for all the sense they make. I have been a photographer for 50 years and I find a lot of the beginners books over complicate. A lot of the different 'looks' you can get in entry level cameras are unnecessary and are best done in post processing with far more control. I find it remarkable that entry level cameras have longer menus and more adjustments than the Pro end DSLR cameras, all they have is Aperture priority, Program Mode, Shutter Priority and Manual Mode as that's all you need. Pro end cameras are simpler to use than entry level ! Chris

Hi, Although I'm not going to recommend any specific books to read up on photography, I am a digital photographer and my biggest suggestion to anyone starting out is take lots and lots and lots of pictures!! whatever your type of photography is, just keep snapping!! For me its Fashion photography, so I do photo shoots with friends all the time!! Also if you know anyone who does photography also, ask them to critique your work. Getting advice and criticism of your work is excellent for seeing little things you can improve! Also make a Facebook page or website for your photography so even more people can see your photos! (Just make sure you put your name on them before putting them on the internet) Best of Luck!

"The Digital Photography Book" is my favorite. It cuts right to the chase without a lot of technical details. It is like a cookbook for photography that gives you a simple and direct recipe for each type of shot. This makes it great to carry around with you as a reference. You can read more about it on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/032147404X/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=hubpages0b6a4-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=032147404X

I just kept going back to my local library until I had worked my way through all of their general photography books. Not everyone was terribly good, but each book had SOMETHING to offer, and after a little while, I just skipped over the bits I already knew. Also don't forget the internet....... there are thousands of tutorials available. The major camera manufacturers (like Canon, Nikon, Olympus etc) all have very useful sections on their website for learning about photography. http://www.nikonusa.com/Learn-And-Explore/Nikon-School/index.page http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/oima_learn_center.asp http://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/controller?act=HomePageAct http://photographycourse.net/
