What photography books would you recommend?

What books do you recommend for someone who is interested in photography?

  • I want a book similar to "Robert Doisneau: three seconds of eternity" or anything with simply pictures and words. Or any book with famous or exquisite photography.

  • Answer:

"Understanding Exposure" & "Understanding Shutter Speed", both by Bryan Peterson. "The Moment It Clicks" by Joe McNally. "The Art of Digital Photography" by Joseph Meehan. "Digital SLR Handbook" by John Freeman. "Object & Image: An Introduction to Photography, Third Edition" by George M. Craven. Any book on lighting and posing by the late Monte Zucker. Subscribe to at least one photography magazine. My personal favorite is SHUTTERBUG but you should read every photography magazine at your library and choose the one you like best. http://www.shutterbug.com Go to http://www.rangefindermag.com and you can get a free subscription to Rangefinder Magazine. Its the "house organ" for WPPI - Wedding & Portrait Photographers International but the photographers and photography it features is inspiring.

How about Annie Leibovitz's autobiography, "A Photographer's Life?" It's up-to-the-minute. Dorthea Lange also has a good biography out -- sorry, I don't know the title.
