San Francisco Art Institute or Brooks Institute for photography?

  • I've been accepted to both schools for the photography program. I really can't decide. I've heard both schools are really great, which makes the decision so much harder. Please help.

  • Answer:

The top three photo schools are: Art Center Brooks Institute of Photography RIT Links: http://www.artcenter.edu http://www.brooks.edu http://www.rit.edu After you spend some time on those links, you will be better able to make a good choice, however you will have to visit each school for a tour and being able to spend time talking to the current students before you decide

Brooks is greatly overpriced and does not offer scholarships. Also, it may be headed for financial meltdown and is not WASC accredited.

Brooks is a for-profit school that makes money for its owners through student tuition. SFAI was founded in 1871 and has always been non-profit (donors help to support the school, its facilities, and its students); Ansel Adams founded the photography program in the 1930s and great artist/photographers teach there still.

Academy of arts institute is GREAT but......classes are very hard!!!! If you like to be challenged to do the best you can offer I recommend you to go there!! I don't know about the Brooks institute, you might do a research and decide which one suites your needs. Good Luck...

I never heard of Brooks but S.F. Art Institute is a well respected institution.
