If you mean how to get them like that by processing a RAW or JPG file, then you need an editing programme that can work with layers, convert colour to B&W, tones, textures, add noise etc.

this would be a long answer, if you go through each on. the simple one is: it's all been through photoshop in one way or another. you can create these effects with any colour photo. reduce them to greyscale and then re-indroduce colours or hues as you want.

first of all you have to be a good photographer. Some of these photos are really well shot. You then need to shoot in RAW, buy Photoshop, and learn how to do really good B&W conversions, which is not easy as these shots have been expertly converted and probably processed with 'dodge and burn'. If they are a bit brown I imagine that the red hue has been increased after the B&W conversion. If you want to cheat you can blow a few more quid on Cool Efex Pro, which has a load of automatic actions built in to convert to B&W and 'high key' which at least one of the photos is (high key I mean). good luck. http://www.flickr.com/rhinoneal
