Most of the people who come in here with this question are the "I just got my first DSLR and now I want to open my own business" types. This section infrequently gets questions from people who actually know much about photography. That's why you're getting the comments you are getting. Personally, I'm a fan of just sticking to your name for a photo business.

Your name followed by the word photography, you are, in effect, signing your work and standing by your images. Clever names can be counter productive, they can put off more people than they attract, certainly in the Corporate world where the big money is. You can always register your name in business listings or if you want to become a Limited Company down the line. You can't always do that if someone else hundreds of miles away has registered a brand name. Bad photographers often hide behind a fancy pseudonym. People don't trust them. Chris

Where I live, if you use your real name followed by the service you offer (photography in this case), you don't need to get a business license or pay for a fictitious business name statement -- saving me hundreds of dollars per year. So it was a no-brainer, that's what I did. You might consider that when you make your decision, if the laws are the same in your area. You have looked into the laws regarding setting up a business, haven't you? And you have a resale license, state and federal tax IDs, etc.? Peace.

Faith Photography Service

For many reasons you will probably be better off to use your name Photography. Faith Smith Photography, or perhaps you can use your initials, FJS, or FJ Smith, or whatever. There are issues that will come up if you are using some other moniker.
