How to resize swf image?

Photoshop. How do I resize an image to 8 x 10 @ 200 dpi? When I try to resize my photos, it won't allow me

  • resize to that size. This is a project I have to do. I keep taking digital photos and none of the images are able to be size to the teacher's specification. Am I using the wrong image size on my digital? These are the image sizes I have on my digital: 1280x960 1280(3:2) 1024x768 640x480 Or, is it how close or far I take the pictures? TIA

  • Answer:

Your camera will only print 4x6's, at 200 DPI. Subject distance will have nothing to do with resolution size.

Is this a digital photo class? If it is cropping your photos, the instructions will be in your notes. The RIGHT image size in your camera is the largest it will produce and at the highest resolution. All resizing should be done using the digital darkroom program that came with your camera or using the one recommended by the instructor and bought as part of the classes requirements. As a reminder, Editing is sorting. Good from bad, excellent from so, so, etc.

Of course, you can do it! It would be good to know which version of Photoshop you're using, because Elements, CS2 and CS3 have Aspect Ratio presets. The original CS does not. Anyhow ... choose the Crop tool in the Tool Bar. At the top, select 8 and 10 as your sizes, and - over farther to the right - choose 200 as the resolution. Crop the picture and you're done. Making an 8x10 from a digital file is always going to be problematic because no digital camera sensor fits the 8x10 aspect ratio exactly (which would translate to 4:5. they're all closer to 3:2). So, if you're going to be expected to hand in 8x10s of your class work, be sure to shoot with some extra space on either side (or top and bottom if you're shooting verticals). That way, when you crop, you won't be forced to throw away important parts of the image. I did a tutorial on this recently. Here's the address: http://www.jimsdigitaldiary.com/8x10.html
