A good camera for an amateur?

Good camera for an ambitious 'amateur' photographer?

  • I want to get a 'starter' camera, but without compromising quality; something a little serious, although I can't say I'm an aficionado when it comes to the subject of finding a good camera, or what features I should be looking for. Now, to contradict myself completely, my price range is a measly 250$ or just slightly over. I was thinking about getting a Nikon Coolpix L100. • Answer:

If you really are an "ambitious 'amateur' photographer" then I would strongly suggest getting a cheap 35mm film camera (for which $100 is way plenty) and spending the balance on a (film) photography class at your local community college to learn the basics of photography. Enjoy!

Instead of putting $250 into a little compact camera you could buy a used DSLR. I have seen canon rebels, nikon D40 and D60, and Sony a100 with lenses and other accessories for $250 or less. I have even seen them as low as $175. Check craigslist and ebay.

well actually there are a few questions to ask. If you are a newbie i recommend a high quality "slim cam" I have a Fujifilm Finepix J110w it by its name is a 10 mp wideangle. I love this camera to death. so since you are starting i would get something like this type. if you want a more professional i would go for some of the higher end Cannon cameras those are nice. (ie Cannon Rebel XS) now I personally dont know how involved you are with your photography. but if you want a simlpe point and shoot then i would get a camera like my Fujifilm, or if you want some really spectacualr landscape photos or close ups with high detail i would get something like my Cannon XS (also 10.2 mp)

It is a great camera for a starter and if you can get it for $250 go for it.

I have this camera (Nikon coolpix L100) and I love it, the contrast is amazing, and the pictures are literally never choppy. I would completely suggest it. hope I helped, xox Arielle <3

Look for a Nikon with large (3inch) display.
