How can I get a career in photography?

I would like to get into photography but as a hobby more than a career. Can anyone recommend a good camera?

  • I am looking to start taking pictures and putting them online just to see what people think of them and just for the fun of it. I am looking for a decent but affordable camera to do this with. Can anyone recommend which type of camera I should begin with. I want it to look professional as well. I already have a $100 dollar camera that is blue and take good pictures but I want it to look more authentic as well as take good pictures.

    Define what affordable means to you and I will edit this with an answer. Decent dSLR cameras (the kind you need) start at around $600 unless you go for a used (Can have issues that won't be obvious until it is too late to return.) or an outdated model (Will have lower MP meaning worse pictures but can learn off it.)

If you have a point and shoot camera and are looking to upgrade, the next logical step would be an SLR camera. These cost around $600. Don't worry about "professional" - you're not at that stage yet. (plus you say you don't want it to be a career anyway). don't worry about how a camera looks - worry about how good the pictures are.

any camera will do. A good camera doesn't take good photos, the photographer does.
