Maryland camping?

Going to Maryland, camping on the beach and bringing a dslr. what do i need?

  • Ok so i'm going camping in Maryland along the beach about 20 meters from the ocean, i'm worried that the salt water, humidity, or sand will hurt my camera, lenses or other equipment. What can i do to minimize the risk?

  • Answer:

get a waterproof housing, starting at $400 and up... ...or get a cheap under-water disposable camera for the trip.

Well, an obvious solution would be the good old plastic bag - although it is not idea you could buy a large clear plastic bag and secure the camera inside (so that you can still use all the buttons etc) and cut a hole for the lens to stick out?! I no this is not ideal, but short of buying an expensive case this is about all I came up with. Here a few more tips though: - You can buy cheaper cases that $400, here is a link http://opteka.com/optekadigitalgearslranddslrcamerashortzoomholstercasewadjustableshoulderstrap-1.aspx - Buy a clear, basic lens filter to protect your lens form getting scratched by sand etc. Here is a link to an example http://cgi.ebay.com/HOYA-46mm-UV-Clear-Filter-Lens-Protection-Filter-NEW-/110555748433?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Camera_Filters&hash=item19bda2d851 (you would have the find the right size for your particular lens) - Invest in a good quality multi fibre cleaning cloth to clean up your camera after each day. - Buy a nice camera bag (if you don't already have one) so that you are not carrying your camera around on your body all the time - And finally, if you are brave enough, you could buy some plastic sealing in a tube, and seal up all the joins of your camera so that water and sand cannot get in. I would recommend researching this a little bit more - it could possibly damage your camera. Hopefully this helps - I live by the sea and often take photographs down on the beach, I own a cheap $100 underwater case for my DSLR - although I do not use it to completely submerge my camera underwater, just to protect from sea spray Etc. Goodluck with your photos!
