Good Camera to make an independent film with?

Do you think it's possible to use the body of a film camera and make it into a digital camera?

  • A dirt cheap 35mm film camera + second hand Canon Ixus and fit the parts into the film camera? Example of film camera: pentax super me Possible?

    YES It is possible. But the cost wouldn't justify the effort. All the first generation of DSLR cameras were actually converted film cameras. The kodak DCS line used several different 35mm bodies over the years to make their DSLR cameras. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kodak_DCS There are few manufactures of digital backs for medium format cameras.

Oh I guess it is POSSIBLE, but certainly not something that would be easy or could be done without a LOT of skill and the proper equipment and knowledge. Sorry, but if you are having to ask, I'm betting that YOU are not a person that can do this. steve

The problems are mechanical. First, you need to line up the CCD (digital sensor) precisely behind the lens. Second, you also need to hook the mechanisms for taking the picture together. The odds of being able to hook in the other controls (flash) are small. What are you trying to achieve? It would seem easier to mount a new lens on the old digital body.

Some techno nerd can probably do it but the simple answer is no. In medium format you can buy a digital back but it's not cheap.

NO Leica tried to make a removable digital back for their SLR's once. The cost of the back was prohibitive (4500€) and within a couple of years the manufacturer of key components was purchased by a new company which put an end to the Leica interchangeable 35 mm/digital backs http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1000&message=5435461&q=leica+digital+back&qf=m

Of course it is possible. It will probably cost you 10 times as much to get it to work as it would be to buy a top of the line DSLR. Medium format cameras are all the same. You just swap out a film back for a digital back.
