Which programs open .tif files?

Saving JPG files as TIF files. Good idea?

  • If you don't have equipment to shoot RAW, is it still a good idea to save your JPG files to TIF files? I know a JPG is technically already compressed. But, I figured at least that way it wouldn't degrade any further if I make a copy.

  • Answer:

You have it backward. Once you have a JPEG, all the detail held by a uncompressed TIFF file is lost. You will either have to buy a camera that shoots in RAW and then during processing, export them as TIFF files or just make sure that you shoot at your cameras highest JPEG resolution
