  • Answer:

No cameras perform well in low light unless you change the settings. That means setting a higher ISO, a wider aperture, and a faster shutter speed. With most point and shoots, you are limited to choosing one of the preset modes such as a night time mode, or a sports mode. So you won't be able to set aperture and shutter speed independently as you could with a camera capable of manual settings. A sharp image is one that is in focus and one that has no motion blur. In low light on an automatic mode, your camera will choose a higher ISO and more than likely a slower shutter speed. If there isn't much light and you don't have a tripod, or your subject is moving - it could certainly introduce motion blurring, resulting in blurry pictures and shooting with high ISO settings usually introduces noise. In the right hands, and with the right techniques (and enough light), any camera can achieve sharp images. By the way, don't get so hung up on the number of megapixels, it's not as important as you may have been lead to believe.
