Photography Essay: What to add and how? PLEASE :D?
-
Hello! Basically this is the first Photography essay I have ever written and I haven't a clue what to add other than the obvious lighting, angles and effects etc. I am writing about the director of the film "The Book Of Eli" and how they kept the post apocalyptic style throughout the film just by using the camera. I am sure of how I am going to word it I just don't want it to turn into a film review over a photography essay. So how can I express different aspects of his word without it being a film review? Thanks :)

Answer:
Just cite the film as an example speaking of different photographic and filming techniques. Talk about the subtle differences in mood a photo or film has that change the emotion of the entire piece. One saying that I really like regarding photography and cameras is: "It's not the camera that's important, it's the person behind it and the lens in front of it that makes the biggest difference" I know that probably wouldn't fit in your essay but I just thought I'd share it. So to summarize, keep the film as an example for a subject in your essay like this: "...subtle differences in mood a photo or film has can change the emotion of the entire piece, for example; in the film "The Book Of Eli" the director kept the post apocalyptic style throughout the film just by the camera he used..." I hope this helps you in some way, haha. EDIT: Do you have a subject for your essay? Like "How photography techniques create mood" or something?

Is it a photo essay or an essay discussing a topic in photography? A photo essay is about photos, not writing. They will have a short caption on intent but the bulk of the work is the photos. If it is a true essay you've got the idea. Just start writing and the rest will follow. Sit in bed and talk out loud about it to get things flowing. An essay has an intent and a follow through. Intro- Book of Elli was. I will discus his style. body 1- lighting body 2- angles body 3 - effects. concl.- As you can see these techniques were used to create the post-apocalyptic..... If it's an photo essay for example I would do a walk to work, A photo of the train coming into the burbs. A photo of Rob who likes to sing on the train. A photo of the city skyline. A photo of the tower. These together give the viewer the story of my morning commute.
