How Do I Crop A Photo Free Handed In GIMP?

When I paste photo in gimp changes the photo to black and white?

  • I'm trying to paste a photo on to another photo in gimp. The problem is that every time I try to paste the photo on to the other photo it changes the photo to black and white. I can paste it to a blank page and it's color again. I tried taking the photo I'm pasting the new photo on to in to a new page but when I put the other one one top of it the same thing happens. How can I get it to stop changing the photo to black and white when I paste it on the new photo?

  • Answer:

The problem is the photo you are pasting it on to is in the wrong image mode, most likely a greyscale image. In GIMP click Image > Mode > RGB Then try copy and pasting again.

Other answers

I use photoshop not gimp, but it sounds to me like you are opening a black and white picture, then pasting a new photo on top (colour) that appears b&w. This is because the mode for the first picture is b&w or greyscale. So gimp throws away any colour data. Change the mode to RGB or CMYK and it will work.

the file that you're working on is in the wrong image mode. click image>>>mode>>>RGB and this should fix it. I do gimp and UFRaw tutorials and would be happy to help you out more.
