How do I print photos wirelessly?

How to print photos that are tiff formated?

  • can you print digital photos that are tiff formated in regular photo stores such as cvs, riteaid and walgreens. If yes how do you do it? Do i need to convert the photos to jpeg for me to be able to print the pics?

  • Answer:

If you are converting to jpeg, don't compress the files more than 10% or you will get a lossy finish. By this, I mean that the photo will look a little blurry, or less sharp compared to the original.

A lot of those places can only read JPEG files... so convert to JPEG.

A .tiff file can be in excess of 100mb easily, therefore most print kiosks will not accept them. Larger photo labs such as a photography store (Wolf Camera) or Costco photo center will usually not have a problem printing out these files. Also, you might see an increase in print quality from using the .tiff files if you print a large enough format (larger than 8"x10"). If you are just printing stuff out for an album its not worth it to use .tiff files. Converting to JPEG will afford you much more space on your flash media or hard drive/CD-r. As most JPEG's range in size from 2mb-7mb (directly correlated to camera settings and megapixel range), as compared to .tiff's 100mb+ file sizes.

The pharmacy photo services all use .jpg as far as I know. They use it because it's the most common file type for images and because the average consumer camera takes photos as .jpg files. So most people who are going to go to some place like Riteaid, CVS or Walgreens know little about image types or even necessarily how their camera works! They just know they took a bunch of pictures and now want some prints. A professional photo service or lab may be able to use .tif files, if you want higher quality that's where you would go. (If you have any independent camera stores where you live, you could ask them for more info and help about this.) When you convert your .tif files to .jpg, make sure you do a SAVE AS so you retain the original .tif file. Always keep a copy of your original file. This is the one you would also copy if you are going to edit the image in any way. Never edit your original, just in case! Hope that helps.
