Should I include a link to my online portfolio in my resume?

Photography portfolio good enough for photography course interview? (Flickr link included)?

  • this is some shots i plan to include in a photography portfolio to take along to a photography course interview. Id be greatful for some people to tall me if they are good enough, any i shouldnt include, and what other types of photogrphy i should include in my portfolio. http://www.flickr.com/photos/67354181@N04/sets/72157629343945320/detail/ there is only 14 so far, but i plan to have 20 shots in my portfolio, is this too many, or too less? also, should i print the pics to A4 SIZE, or should i print each pic half the size of A4?

  • Answer:

Have anywhere between 15-20 prints. Do them 8x10 size. Do not include the following shots: Green Window Plant, _MG_4391, _MG_4736, _MG_6671, and _MG_6687 For several reasons the above photos are not good enough. Everyone takes a shot of water on grass, it's boring and unoriginal. The town at night has a wonky horizon so either sort that or discard it. There isn't enough going on in the lighthouse shot and compared to the Bridge and the one with the intersection it's not as good. The light drawing and the girl are very teenager-esque shots that show no real skill or thought to composition/technique. I'm not keen either on the pen shot, the whole idea of it and the 'i love you' written all over the paper just screams childish to me. You're applying for a course where you're required to have an interview which tells me they don't let any tom, dick or harry on to it and it is of a certain level. You need to start thinking professionally and right now only a couple of your shots reflect that, at a push. A quick search on flickr shows what other people are doing with the same camera as you. Have a look, compare yours with theirs and learn to be critical about your own work. As for what you should photograph, when i went for my interview to uni i included in my portfolio a range of subjects to show my versatility. I had still life, landscape, portraiture and documentary. Aim for something similar to show you're not a one trick pony. You'll have time to hone your skill later.

Really nice shots! The long exposure ones are the best. I'm in the same kind of situation as you, here are mine: http://www.flickr.com/photos/63368475@N08/sets/72157629702347673/
