What does it take to be a top contributer?

What Are The Benifits of being a Y/A top Contributer?

  • do the top contributers get intensives or any other monetary earnings from yahoo? i want to be a top contributer but whats the sence of it? what will i accomplish?

  • Answer:

There are no benefits. In fact, it's almost a sentence - you feel as though you must 'try' harder to retain the title. Fact is, people just answer questions as well as they can. If you answer enough and get enough Best Answers you get lumped with it. The Top Contributor thing means nothing to me - I'll still answer questions regardless.

Unfortunately, there is no spelling or grammar requirements to being a Top Contributor, but I was awarded the apellation, and then it disappeared. I know not why. I do know that it makes absolutely no difference in your life, other than your being able to brag to other online nerds about it. Otherwise, no one gives a fig, and neither should you.

Once you become a Top Contributor you receive a $1,000,000.00 bonus, payable at $10.00 per year and it must be collected in person every year at Y/Answers main office which is located in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle. Top Contributors also receive a one-time "Extreme Makeover". After mine I went from looking like Sam Elliot to looking like Willie Nelson. They told me that was a good thing. All I know is I seem to have the munchies all the time.

I've been a Top Contributor many times. I had a TC badge and then lost it because I stopped going on YA for a while. Then I got it again, and lost it again. It really doesn't seem to make any difference at all. MAYBE (and that's a big maybe) some people take your answer a little more seriously if you have a TC badge, but I'm not really sure. Sometimes it seems like people never even bother to read the answers to their questions, because they NEVER pick a Best Answer and it ends up going to voters. Especially in the Photography category. Go ahead, pick any random person who asks a question and look at their profile. Look at their Q&A and you will probably see the answers in nearly ALL their questions are "Chosen By Voters." Sometimes I seriously wonder why I bother wasting my time trying to answer a question if they're not even going to take the time to read the answers and choose a Best Answer. I don't care if my answer gets picked...just as long as they choose SOMEONE. That way, at least we know they read the answers. Should I look at your Q&A profile?? Is this question going to go to voters too?? Ideally, a TC badge should mean that a person is very knowledgeable about a certain topic and that they have given a lot of helpful answers to people. You get a TC badge when you have answered a certain number of questions, and also have a certain minimum percentage of Best Answers. I think it's 20 percent. Unfortunately, a TC badge doesn't always necessarily mean that a person is an expert in anything. Usually they DO know what they're talking about...but not always. I saw a girl here a while back who was telling everyone that photography was all about how you "Photoshop" pictures and that editing was more important than your skills as a photographer. Of course, that's total crap and everyone knows it. She always got voted thumbs down. But she was still a Top Contributor for a while. My guess is that she just voted for herself and got her friends to vote for her. Being a TC on Yahoo Answers is a thankless job. You do get a sense of accomplishment, and there must be something fun about this place because I keep coming back. But it's kind of like really sweet candy...it's great and a lot of fun for a while, but if you have too much of it, it will make you sick.

Wait!!! The rest of you aren't getting that fat YA T/C check each month?? Hmmmm....

You are targeted by trolls who enjoy the sense of power they get from giving a TC the thumbs down. If you are at the head of the list, you enjoy the privilege of being reported for violations just for fun. Other than that and the punch card for a free cup of coffee at Dunkin' Donuts, there's not a lot of benefit.

Top Contributors get to use spell-check. You should try it sometime.

Prestige, bragging rights, a little something to be proud of. It would be nice if they offered pay, wouldn't it?
