How To Use An Airbrush?

What paints can I use in an Airbrush to paint a model?

  • Hi, I'm building a scale model (an architectural model, mostly on cardboard, not the plastic hobby model, although I do those) for a project/plate and I want to paint it. I recently bought an airbrush and all I've been using is the paint from Badger(the one that you can use directly) and inks from tech pens, but both of them are expensive (at least compared to others) and has less color choices. I've read acrylic paints can be used, but after browsing I saw two (three if you include industrial grade) types, first is the one found on hobby shop which is already liquid-ey and the other on an art shop which is like a toothpaste (the one in those tube). The one in the art shop is cheaper by 300-400%, and I'd like to use it since I saw the colors I want there. I'm wondering if they're the same and can be used in an airbrush. If so, on what should I mix it (water or alcohol, or something, I've heard thinner), and on what ratio? Thanks. I think this is what they look like From hobby stores - http://pics.towerhobbies.com/image/t/tamr1775.jpg From art stores - http://withfriendship.com/images/g/31676/inscribe-59ml-acrylic-paint.jpg If you have any other alternatives, please tell me. What I need is variety in color and easiness to use in an airbrush.

  • Answer:

I use humbrol paints, like the airfix kits, and a thinner, ratio normally about 1 paint to 6 thinner... Hope that helps
