How can you make your BMX look better?

Help painting a BMX bike?

  • i am planing or repainting my bike to make it look modern. I own a BMX bike if it helps. i am playing on using a spray gun attached to an air compressor. not spray paint cans check if this is right 1. sand down the old paint 2. apply primer (then sand if needed) 3. apply base-coat. Which paint should i buy that would look good? do i need flat, mattle or gloss, and should i sand paint or will it make it look scratched up. 4. add decals 5. apply clearcoat my main thing i want to know is which paint should i buy to make it look like it was just made. like a shiny bike. and if the steps are right This is the kind of design I'm using http://www.redlinebicycles.com/bikes/bmx-race

You're on the right track. If the frame is aluminum, you need to use an acid etch primer - usually from a auto parts shop. sand with 300 grit after priming to get out the nubs. Doesn't matter what type of base coat, I would use gloss though. Wet sand with 1000 grit. Make sure base coat cures completely - 2 to 3 days be fore clear coating. I would use Alkyd Enamel paint - but make sure you are in a well ventilated space and wear a proper mask. You might want to visit a local auto body repair shop for help and suggestions. One with a friendly owner would be great. Hope this helps.
