Artists who experiment with colour?

  • Hi, I need to do some artists studies for my GCSE coursework and I'm at a loss as to who to do work on. I'm looking specifically for artists who use lots of bright colours and experiment with them. Kind of like in an abstract way. You could look up Leonid Afremov's work to get what I mean. Anyone know of any artists who do this kind of work?

It depends how abstract you want to go. Gcse teachers love mark rothko, he is all about the emotional effects of colour, and how you experience the pieces when sat in front of them. ( they are in the tate if you are near london, teachers also love if you have actually seen the art works in real life, i mean they really love this) Van gogh is okay, good for the effects of complementary colours, but a tad predictable. Kandinsky is also popular, and is super easy to do work 'in the style of' If you want to go really arty and impress look at Gerhard Richter's abstract work. He also does some amazing photorealist paintings you mihht find of interest. Good luck
