What are some good acrylic paints that would work on leather, and approximate cost? I want to customize some shoes I own and it'd be cheaper if i did it myself rather than have someone else do it. Get back to me in the next couple hours so I can go and buy the stuff before class! Thanks!

hi, dont think acrylic is what you want as its water based and when it rains you will be leaving a rainbow trail... better off with a fabric paint that works on leather. tulip fabric paints are great and would be ideal for what you want and they are only 2.49 per tube. sold in good art/craft shops---south wales area nolton art gallery bridgend have them.

airbrush artists have been painting on leather, canvas, t-shirts - etc for years. Createx makes a great paint, and with bonders/adhesion promoters it will stick and be quite durable on leather. Painting them by other means, such as a regular brush may not be ideal, as the paint layers will be thicker...and prone to crack. Gotta wonder if oil paint with a damar varnish mixed into the glaze would work? I know the Createx works fine, as long as you use the bonder/catalyst/adhesion promoter.

Watch it using acrylics on leather. If there's any kind of oil in it to preserve it it will make the paint peel. The last time I painted a jacket I used model paint and it lasted for years. Acylics will look better but enamel will last longer. You may want to go to a leather shop and see what they say.

hmm i don't think you should use acrylics.. use fabric paint that you can find in most craft stores... IE. Hobby Craft, The Works, Stationery Box try Atlantis - the on line store is under construction, but you can order a cataloge... you can get decent ones for 3 to 4 pounds a colour... hope that helps mate
