What is the cultural frame in art?

Does an artist needs to frame their art work before submiting to an art gallery?

  • i am trying to sell my painting abroad ... my dad lives their so obviously im sending it through mail therefore i cannot frame my art work cuz it would be too expensive then ...so help me out here and also can an artist submit their artwork if they are not personally over there

  • Answer:

It depends on the artist. A lot of paintings look great without frames. It also depends what kind of meaning the artist is trying to convey. I don't believe you HAVE to frame it to submit it to an art gallery. Also, I doubt whether the gallery needs the artist to be there but it depends on what their preferences are. Maybe just call over there to make sure.

Are you sending work to a gallery who has agreed to show your stuff or are you sending it over there for approval? If they have accepted your work already they will tell you if it needs to be framed or not. If it is just for approval why not send images of your work electronically (via email) first? That's a whole lot cheaper than sending the actual paintings.

Really depends on the gallery. Some require it be framed and hardware attached, some do their own framing. You can use gallery wrap canvas to give it a more finished presentation.
