What paint could I use to paint a guitar?

• I want to paint a Kokeshi doll on my acoustic guitar,it's got varnish on it and the paint needs to last .So what type of paint should I use.

  it depends on the look you want to go for, like matt/gloss. but you would have to prepare the surface first, use a fine grain sand paper to rough up the surface your going to paint on, or you will have to use a primer (you might have to do both) to get the paint to stick. there are all kinds of diffrent paints that you could use, enamel paints will probably be the best for making a detailed design, most guitars use a nitrocellulose spray paint which will give the best results. once you have painted, if you want the design to last you will need to use a clear varnish or clear nitrocellulose spray paint over it, otherwise it will scratch and chip off.
