What does collaborative art mean?

What does art mean to you personally? How do you value art work especially your own art work?

  • Answer:

I just put a piano piece on a CD a woman wrote in '39, played it at her 93rd birthday. It was a nice piece, not great. Art is worth more than it's inherent beauty, it connects generations.

This is a HUGE question. I could go on all night so instead I'll give a very abbreviated list: To me personally art is : History, Expression of inner self, expression of outer world, perspective, reality, realtionships, fantasy, etheral beauty, alternate worlds, theory, philosophy, creation, frustration, understanding from others perspectives, release, spiritual... I value all artwork for what it says, does, thinks how it makes me feel, what it teaches me- same goes for my own artwork, but my own art is a very spiritual thing for me, when I am in the throes of painting, sculpting, filming, making music, etc is when I feel closest to "God".

To me art is a form of expression. Within my paintings I strive to express an emotion or feeling through the piece. I think To me it allows me to release stresses and worrys that I have and put them onto the canvas. Right now I am working with expressing emotions within my artwork very specifically and that coexists with my life currently because i have a lot of consusing emotions that are clashing with each other and i am trying to sort them out, so I sort them out on canvas or whatever. I think art is a way to preserve time. Toulouse lautrec preserved scenes from night clubs in the 1800's and Andy warhol preserved faces of famous celebreties and the style of the time. Art is a very personal thing and no one person can say that something is art or isnt art. Its all a matter of opinion. Noone can value an art work. It is all up to a person's own opinion. Some artists throw paint on a canvas and say voila there is art. He thinks its art, it expresses something about him therefore in his mind it is art and it doesnt matter what anyone else thinks. I value my own artwork in many different ways. I value as how hard I worked on it. If it took me 10 minutes i feel that it isnt as good as it could be or it isnt a finished product. If it takes me weeks and months I feel it is a much better piece. I also consider the feeling that it gives off and what the painting captures. If my pieces dont capture what I want them to capture I generally get very frustrated and give up. Some people would look at my art and say ohhh that sucks and others are like wow its amazing. Art is based merely on opinions.

Art is both a personal expression and a challenge to the senses. I value some art, but artistic appreciation is up to the individual. I think my own art is worth the money I sell it for, and so do the people who purchase it, but more than that I just enjoy the creative process.

I enjoy the process of creating artwork. If I like the end result, it's icing on the cake. Somehow emotion and feeling get into the painting. When I make a painting, it's my baby.
