Can you share some tips on how I can preserve my collection of paintings?

Does anybody know how to preserve old paintings?

  • We have few old oil as well as watercolor paintings and i wanted to preserve them. I don't know the scientific way of preserving them.

It's a job for a specialist. Unless the watercolours are on museum quality paper, there's not much can be done except to keep them out of the light, covered with inert paper (from an art supply shop), in an inert cardboard cover. The oils will need very careful cleaning to remove embedded dirt and varnish (presuming they've been varnished which most old oils were). Then they may need spot restoration. If the paint is "crazed" or cracked not much can be done about that, except to ensure it is adhering well to the support of board or canvas. Finally they would probably need to be re-varnished with a quality modern removable varnish designed for the purpose. I'd get quotes from a couple of restorers, accessible through your local art gallery or art supply shop used to quality work. Good luck
