How good is DuPont automotive spray paint?

Can use spray paint over latex paint, and or latex over spray paint.?

  • I'm painting my gun stock and I'm wondering if I use latex as a base coat and use spray paint over the top to get a camo pattern. or I can use spray paint as a base then use latex to add a blueish hue or tint, and then use spray paint over the spray paint/latex to add camo or strips. Reasons for using latex, I want the base coat to be an ice white ( a dark/light shade of blue, but almost white) I can create this by custom mixing latex paint. I am not worried so much about shrinking or expanding, as it won't be for outside use. (its a non working gun I'm using for decoration) so can I add latex to the equation? or would that just be a bad idea, thanks allot, Huhe

  • Answer:

Laytex is water based acrylic and most spray paint is water based acrylic. Check the can it should tell you. But even if it is oil based you can use it. You can put acrylic over acrylic--you can put oil over acrylic.----What you can not do is put Water based acrylic over oil paint. because the oil under the paint will keep the Acrylic paint from adhering and it will bubble and crack
