Recommend me some portrait artists?

Hi there, I'm doing a portrait painting of my friend (from a photograph) and I need to do it in the style of one (or preferably more) artist. I'm tired of researching, I just can't seem to find any portrait artists that really interest me.. So was wondering if you could recommend any. I'm quite keen on keeping the painting fairly 'normal looking', yet I want it to be slightly unusual at the same time.. So for example, Picasso's style is not really what I'm looking for. I guess I'm just looking for some inspiration really XD Thanks x

Rather than recommend a given Artist or a style. Which there are many . Based on your posting of what you want ( a looser paintery style) Why not develop your own. Block off about 4 hours to complete the figure work with a small flat with a long handle , holding it back past center with third finger and thumb letting index just rest loosely on it . And paint it learning to turn to flat and creating new types of strokes etc. Be Bold and block it in quickly . For then you can see it and there is nothing that can't be fixed . Good luck

I have done some similar things and i suggest Paul Klee. He doesn't do work realistically more of an abstract painting.
