What are some good universities in London?

What good jobs can you get in painting and in which universities in london?

  • i am an A/A* GCSE student, and i need to start thinking and getting ideas about what I'm gonna do after my a and as levels. I'm best at painting and I'm interested in the Banksy and Warhol type style. i don't want to be your regular painter. i was thinking about a job in advertising like designing billboards, posters . . . and i want to know what course i would need to take at Uni, and what i would do after to get into that kinda thing. thanks in advance.

  • Answer:

Billboards and posters are designed by Graphic Designers. You can do a degree in this - but there isn't any painting involved. If you really want to be a painter, go to Art College. Salvador is quite right - a foundation course would be a great idea for you, it makes it easier to get onto a degree course later, and gives you a chance to experiment with techniques and ideas you may not have come across yet. You may find something you are even better at than painting.

If you want to go into Advertising (e.g. posters, billboards etc) you would ideally have a qualification in either Graphic Design, Advertising Design, Illustration etc. I would personally go for Graphic Design, so you need to take this at A Level/BTEC and as a degree at University. Once you leave University it would be a good idea to get a job as an apprentice at an advertising agency. This way you will be able to work with top designers and get a hands on approach to the chosen career. A good tip would be to look for a University that offers you a work placement in industry, as you will gain experience from this. Look for a foundation course. They are pretty wide ranging & will sort out your strengths/weaknesses, likes/dislikes, & you can just have great fun experimenting in different media & styles.

Salvador

Graphic Design. But it's extremely competitive. Only do it if you have a thick skin and a will of iron.
