Can I use regular food coloring in my airbrush?

Can I use regular food coloring mixed with water to airbrush a cake?

  • i am making my daughter's birthday cake, I bought a hobby airbrush and was wondering if for paint, if I can just use regular food coloring mixed with water, instead of buying the expensive food coloring paints. Money is tight, and it is just for a one year old's cake. Will it work?

  • Answer:

as long as the thickness of the liquid is medium or a little thickness and be sure to use a moisture trp with out it the compressor can cause water to form in the air and it will mix with what you spray....

My daughter makes wedding cakes and I just went and asked her, she's over at our house in fact tonight making one and she said "NO, because for one it's not vibrant enough, and two it's so thin it'll run like water off the cake." Best to go to a Ben Franklin or Wedding cake baker and/or call one and ask them what the best method would be. Glad to help, and really glad you didn't try this and be disappointed! Good luck!

I guess not, it would be very messy and it would be hard for the color to stay on the cake but am sure it would stay on you! you better not try it, make a professional do his/her job or make nothing cause your daughter won't enjoy it she is only one REMEMBER!
