-
OK.. i got this assignment about Picasso and Cubism and Wassily and Abstractism... I know Picasso made this huge and gorgeous paintings (Guernica is my favorite) but i don't know, i can't really understand the difference between Cubism and Abstractism... I guess Cubism was before Abstractism.. but getting to the real question.. What was the real change in all the visualizations of art and its visual language....

Answer:
To be technical, George Braques invented cubism, Picasso was merely the one who ran with it. The two worked side by side, often creating indistingushable work from one another, until braques was injured in a war. Cubism is based off the notion that a flat painting is all illusion. It tries to show a three dimensional space on one plain. Cubism takes views from all around the object(s) that are being drawn (back of the head, front of the chest, etc) There are also 2 different stages that cubism went through: analytical and synthetic. Analytical deconstructed an object into these shapes and forms, while synthetic reconstituted a form out of basic shapes. Picasso was one of the first (if not THE first) to collage material for fine art (glass and a bottle of suze) and also created cubist sculpture (guitar), in which he created the negative space, rather than the positive space of the guitar. Cubism is NOT abstractism, because the forms are still rooted in a tangible object or form, while TRUE abstract paintings represent nothing I would still give braques more credit, where credit is due. If you're interested, check out david hockney's "joiner" photo collages. In the most basic terms, they are photographic cubism, with the element of time added to space.

I think saying Picasso "came up with Cubism" is assuming a great deal. One should never discount or under-play the importance of Braque in the development of Cubism! Furthermore, I wouldn´t class "Guernica" as an example of Cubism though there may be a case to be made for a relationship with Cubism. Cubism as I understand it was a way of combining several different view points of an object or objects into a single image;there was little importance in the use of colour. The variable view point owed it´s origin to studying the work of Cèzanne. Abstract painting used realism as a "jumping off" point for subject matter and used colour in a very important emotive way. Both styles of painting, like impressionism before, simply was a freeing of painting from the requirement of, accurate recording of reality, which could now be accomplished through photography

LILA. DONT GET HUNG UP, ON ABSTACTISM.Piccasso changed the viewers perception, the language he used was the abstact, he did not invent it,he utilised it, remember the point in history, war changes many things most of all how we looked at the world around us,piccasso was no different than many artist working at that point in time, degas said ''art is not what you see, it is the thing you make other people see'' look back a little further in your research to artist working practices before piccasso became the person who we know of today, in Paris,Georges Braque,Piccasso shared space and collaborated with many artist of that time, These artist helped him to evolve the language to the form we know of today. regards LF

I think that Picasso's work is simply the depiction of the transition from classical to modern art. It becomes more and more abstract and symbolic and figurative. He's became more experimental and geometric. It led I believe to people who became more abstract and geometric and sterile like Mondrian is it?

all your questions are related. here's how. Before Cubism all art was a representation of what the artists eye sees from a specific point of view. they may have used different styles but they were still painting a picture as they saw it. Cubism was representing an object not as it was seen from one point of view but from many points of view. from different angles. you can see this most noticeably in how he draws faces. often you can see that he showing the face from the side as well as from the front. This changed the visual language of art because it gave artists the freedom to represent something not just how they saw it but in other ways. Duchampe represented the same thing (a nude decending a staircase) from one angle but through many points in time such that the resulting image looked like a blur. Abstractism formed from the idea that an artwork does not have to be the result of what the artist sees with his eye but what he sees with his mind's eye. Their freedom to do that or even imagine it could be said to have started with Picasso's Cubism.

... well, separate from assignment protocol, in a way it was a breathe of technique/ merveille fresh air, this helped to break away from the mona-lisa & michelangelo realistic style, and allowing colours and fashion to set the moods in decor, ... and that's part of the whole change, read other answers, ..
