What is a painting website?

Is it illegal to post a painting I painted of Ron Pearlman on my art teachers website?

  • For my painting class I painted a pop art portrait of Ron Pearlman. My art teacher wants to post this on her website but she says its illegal to do that without Ron Pearlmans permission ... so now she wants me to write him a letter or something wich seems impossible. So if anyone knows anything about this it would be greatly appreciated!!! And if I do have to ask permission do you have any clue how to do that?! Thank you :)

  • Answer:

Only illegal in the state of wyoming..

You should make sure you're spelling his name right. Since the internet is a public place, then yes, you will need permission to reprint his image. Contact his manager.

Technically, yes. You would not only need his permission, but if you used a photo reference you would need permission from the photographer as well. But, this is a fan work created for personal enjoyment. Since you aren't profiting from the image, it is extremely unlikely that anyone would hassle you about posting it online. If your teacher doesn't want to take the risk, that's their choice. But, you can still display the picture on your own website if you want to.
