What is this Painting Called?

  • There is a painting in a Art Museum In Kansas. I have no Idea what the name of it is, but the painting is brown and there is a black square in the middle of it, I can't remember if the brown slowly fades into the black, or if there is just a black square in the middle. Anyway, I know I sounds strange but the description of the painting said that when you looked at it, It made you feel peaceful. Please, its my mom's favorite painting and I would like to get it for her. Please don't answer if you don't know. Thank you!

  • Answer:

Could it be Gunther Förg's Untitled color field painting shown in the link below? If so, a print is selling for around $10.00. http://www.art.com/products/p12190088-sa-i1565278/gunther-forg-untitled-iii-c1999.htm?aff=conf&ctid=1474097343&rfid=307786&tkid=15006312& If not, then you can narrow your search by isolating which museum houses the painting. Check the link below to identify the building. Next, find the holdings for that specific museum. http://www.kansastravel.org/kansasartmuseums.htm

The only thing I can find online is "Black Square" by Kazimir Malevich. Is this the one you mean? I put Malevich's Wikipedia Page below in my source, just scroll down to a little to what's apparently titled "Black Square" that it says he did in 1915.

It might be one of Mark Rothko's in the Rothko Chapel in Houston, Tx. No.7 perhaps? He has alot that are black and brown.
